Cutting open an olive with fly damage – Olive Fruit Fly Video – Yikes!

Date: December 03, 2015

The Olive Fruit Fly is one of the only pests an olive tree, and olive fruit has.

I wanted to show the damage Olive Fruit Fly can have on olive fruit.  If you farm olives, you understand how annoying and devastating a bad infestation can be. In this video, I cut the olive open to inspect the damage and find the larva of the fly that has advanced to the pupa stage. This whole process starts with an adult fly landing on an olive, puncturing it, and laying an egg inside the meat of an olive. This is one of the only pests an olive tree has.
